Tillman included an word-long essay about its symbolism and meaning in the release announcement email to his fan club. Pure Comedy is the story of a species born with a half-formed brain. Over time, and as their brains prove to be remarkably good at inventing meaning where there is none, the species becomes the purveyor of increasingly bizarre and sophisticated ironies.

The slower, the better The slower, the better 'Cause there's no one old on magic mountain There's no one old, old on magic mountain. And that was the very last barn I'm burning So for now everyone is dancing As if it's any time but the present So for now every young thing in my path I'll hold their face so long inside my hands. The longer, the better The longer, the better 'Cause there's no one old on magic mountain There's no one old, old on magic mountain.
The wine has all been emptied And smoke has cleared As people file back to the valley On the last night of life's party These days the years thin till I can't remember Just what it feels like to be young forever. So the longer I stay here The longer there's no future So I'm growing old on magic mountain I'm growing old, old on magic mountain. Already have an account? Log in. An error has occured - see below:. Tillman writes superb lyrics. First time listening to father john misty, and the vinyl is awesome for collectors, the art work is absolutely fantastic, and on the inside you have a marching band with guys and stuff, it's pretty cool, both vinyls came fresh as new, not warped, play perfectly, and sound great!
I real calm, real, and soft album about life, and it's awesome! See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews. Translate all reviews to English. You might not think so on first listen but this is a faster grower than Jack's bean stalk.
Loved his music since Fear Fun and for a long time that was my favourite, but this is his bet yet. I pre-ordered this and at first wondered what on earth I was gonna get to justify the 40 quid price tag. When I found details elsewhere I was satisfied it was good value but was gutted to then get shipped the standard version - bad Amazon!
It was worth it, but I'm a vinyl junkie anyway so love a bit of thoughtful presentation. The coloured vinyls have a bit of crackle between tracks that was not present on the clean blacks but I love this too - sounds old and lived in already, something like a broken-in pair of super-comfortable shoes.
The writing, the music, the arrangements and the sleeve notes all combine to make this an outstanding record. Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. This is a truly brilliant collection of songs, think early Elton John and add to that John Grant and you may be able to work out the style and lyrically astute content and this really is a must buy album A listening delight.
This guy is superb, great songs, totally absorbing lyrics and so good I immediately ordered his first two albums. What a talent. I find with FJM that his albums are more enjoyable in small doses. Listening in one sitting can be a bit draining. This is a lovely album, very easy to listen to! Will certainly look out for next one from Father John Misty. Load more international reviews. I love the design with the different skies you can slot in, I have mine as the dark red one in the front and the default night one in the back.
Love this. Amazing lyricist and musician. Some songs take a while to grow on you but the album is fab. Fab album. Took a few plays to realise just how good this album is. Reminds me of early i.
