Vic - Throwing Muses - Red Heaven (Vinyl, LP, Album)

So far so good. Fans will be happy for one more time yet It's strange how less organised this sounds and how less important it feels in comparison to " The Real Ramona " - arguably the band's best record - released just one year ago.

With the exception of " Carnival Wing " - so beautiful in it's own angst - there's not a track here capable of braking the wall standing between their indie fanbase and the wider rock audience. Kristin Hersh deserves credit for not giving a damn all these years for what the charts want and for playing the game always in her own terms. What's missing here is the vision. This is my favorite Muses album Limbo is a close second and they really rock out here. Also, some of Hersh's most mature work displayed in all it's glory on "Pearl" and "Carnival Wig.

Sophisticated alternative rock with great lyrics. Oh, and David's drumming is fantastic. You must buy this album for its intelligence!

It seems a lot changed between The Real Ramona and this album. For one, Tanya Donelley left band. She seemed to give the band a needed contrast to Kristin Hersh's depressive songs. I am a fan of Belly and the Breeders, so it should be no surprise that post-Donelly Throwing Muses has very little appeal to me. Red Heaven is excellent work.

Firepile, Carnival Wig Great music, especially those early records. Maybe worth an investment from TB. TerryB , Feb 4, Alan2 likes this. Location: Hertfordshire, England. Almost Simon , Feb 4, Just did a search and this seems to be the first ever Throwing Muses thread around here.

Surely some mistake?? I'm a big fan of their 90's albums. The Real Ramona in particular. Thought there would be more interest for this group. Location: Glasgow, UK. Throwing Muses are one of my favourite bands. I've got all their albums, all Kristin Hersh's solo albums and the 2 50ft Wave albums too. All of them are good a few are genuinely great. I always thought that they were unfairly overlooked when their second full length album House Tornado was released here the same day as 4AD released Pixies Surfer Rosa.

They came over for a joint tour and the UK press went nuts for the Pixies and the Muses became yesterday's news. It would be good to hear some new material from them. I have seen them live many times right back to the late 80's and have been lucky enough to catch them on their one off shows in the last two or three years.

The last time was the only time they seemed tired at ATP last May so perhaps they need some new material to inject some life back into the band. Her solo shows remain superb especially the UK ones she did with The McCarricks to promote her last solo album; which is a great record. Its a shame she cannot afford to tour and record a full band. She has a family of 4 kids and her husband manages her so finances must be really tight as a cult artist.

That visceral vocal edge she can switch into gives her music that extra frission and kick that many artists don't have. We present new, exclusive music and the hot hits for information. The record integrates Throwing Muses' penchant for unlikely song structures with an endearing pop quality. But the record also marks the end of the Hersh-Donelly era. Donelly, having become more ambitious as a writer and guitarist, had already been working with the Pixies' Kim Deal, co-founding The Breeders in ; and after touring in support of The Real Ramona Donelly left Throwing Muses to form The Breeders, taking bassist Fred Abong with her. By this time, Hersh had begun performing solo numbers live.

Her first solo collection, Live at Maxwell's , was released as a bonus disc with Throwing Muses' Red Heaven in , and her studio output as a solo artist has been nearly constant ever since, even while playing with the Throwing Muses and 50 Foot Wave founded with Bernard Georges and drummer Rob Ahlers after David Narcizo retired from the road to focus on graphic design. Throwing Muses officially disbanded in ; their most recent recording was a reunion effort, the self-titled release, which coincided with the release of Hersh's The Grotto.

  4. The Curse was "a temporary release" from 4AD, a live record from Throwing Muses' two October shows at the Grand Theater in Clapham, London. Though the Muses were touring to support Red Heaven at the time, only four songs from that record can be found on this song set.
